Story

Due to a continued collapse in regular income as a result of the necessary restrictions, St Johns has started a new fundraising campaign. Our goal is to raise £2.000 by 1st November to make up for the shortfall in income we are facing in September and October.

While we usually generate income through events, hall hire and donations from members of the congregation, the necessary restrictions have forced us to cease these very activities. Unfortunately, limiting the activities in the church doesnt mean that running costs cease. We need to generate a significant sum of money each month to pay for unavoidable commitments: utility bills, salaries and stipends, insurance, essential works to keep St Johns safe and our payment to the Diocese which contributes towards the support of parishes poorer than ourselves. We have done what we can to rein in spending, but we still need to find between £8,500 and £9,000 each month.

For this reason, we would like to encourage anyone who is able to do so to support St Johns by contributing to our fundraising campaign. We are aware that these are lean times for all of us, but please rest assured that every little you are able to give helps us keep St Johns up and running.

Anything you can spare will be greatly appreciated and an enormous help to St Johns.

About the charity

St John’s is a large building with room for everyone. We are an inclusive church welcoming people of every age, background, colour, sexuality, gender identity, and experience. We are a mix of people of Christian faith, people exploring their beliefs, and, of course, people who have doubts. Our life together centres on the High Mass which takes place at 10am on Sundays. Our wonderful choir supports our worship, and Sunday School takes place most weeks with worship and activities for children. A crèche area is also provided for younger children. All are welcome. As well as worship, we are engaged in various ways with children and young people, we offer opportunities for friendship and support, and also for learning about and nurturing faith. We are engaged in our local community, working with those of all faiths and none to improve the quality of life across our parish. St John’s has a strong musical life, hosting recordings and recitals as well as having its own active choir and fabulous organ.
