Foodbank Advent Calendar Appeal

To support our local food bank, this year we'd like to donate 150 Advent calendars so that the children of poorer families aren't left out. We've chosen a calendar that is focused on the Christmas story and includes Fair Trade chocolate.

Story

We think of Christmas traditionally as a time filled with happiness but sadly this isn't always the case for a lot of people for many reasons.

If you are on a low income the prospect can fill you with more dread than joy, especially if you have children.

At St Johns we have a regular monthly collection of food, toiletries and household items for the amazing Norwood & Brixton Foodbank.

This Christmas we are asking for your immediate action to donate £3.99 or more so we can give 150 Advent Calendars to the Norwood & Brixton Foodbank ready to be opened on the 1st December.

The advent calendars contain 25 festive chocolates made from Fairtrade chocolate containing no palm oil in a recyclable box & tray plus a beautifully illustrated 24 page Christmas story activity book.

About the charity

St John’s is a large building with room for everyone. We are an inclusive church welcoming people of every age, background, colour, sexuality, gender identity, and experience. We are a mix of people of Christian faith, people exploring their beliefs, and, of course, people who have doubts. Our life together centres on the High Mass which takes place at 10am on Sundays. Our wonderful choir supports our worship, and Sunday School takes place most weeks with worship and activities for children. A crèche area is also provided for younger children. All are welcome. As well as worship, we are engaged in various ways with children and young people, we offer opportunities for friendship and support, and also for learning about and nurturing faith. We are engaged in our local community, working with those of all faiths and none to improve the quality of life across our parish. St John’s has a strong musical life, hosting recordings and recitals as well as having its own active choir and fabulous organ.
