Story
thank you for your support for St John The Baptist Church, Gastard.
Without your generous donations, our church would not be able to continue our work and mission.
We recognise that not everybody will be in a position to give. We are grateful for all donations received.
Please use the blue 'donate now' button to make your donation, which can be gift aided if you wish. Feel free to leave us a message, or your donation can be made anonymously if you prefer.
BLISTER PACK RECYCLING
Gastard ECO church has bought a Zero Waste Box from TerraCycle for the community to recycle empty medicine blister packs as this facility is not available elsewhere.
We can use the box to recycle 7,500 packs, so it should last us a year. It costs £199 and the purchase only covers one box and shipping back when full. We would like to ask people for a voluntary donation, if you can, to offload your packs to offset some of this cost - Suggested Voluntary Donation £3 - £5 per 100 or £10 for a year (or more of you feel that is fair!?).
The box is in the church by the back pew - available when the church is open.
Make your donation here using the blue 'donate now' button. Please put 'BLISTER PACKS' in the comments box of your donation.
CHRISTMAS CARDS
During The Advent season each year we have our christmas card campaign running - just send one card to all your friends at St John's and make a donation at the same time www.justgiving.com/campaign/StJohnsChristmasCards2023
ABOUT OUR CHURCH
We are part of the Corsham and Lacock Team of Churches, led by the Revd Dr. Andrew Johnson, which includes Corsham, Neston, Gastard Lacock and Bowden Hill.
On Sir Thomas Fowlers death in the Boer War it was his resolute (somewhat eccentric) sister Jean who for many years managed Gastard House and estate. Whatever her strengths and shortcomings may have been, one action must stand as a lasting tribute: she made possible the erection of St John the Baptist Church, Gastard. Motivated by Christian zeal and a desire to build a memorial to her father, Sir Robert Nicholas, and her brother Sir Thomas, she and her family generously supplemented the nucleus of money obtained from fund raising efforts in the village.
She also donated the plot of land on which the church was erected. On Thursday, 11th July 1912, in the presence of a large company, the formal ceremony of laying the foundation stone took place. Miss Jean Fowler herself laid the cornerstone bearing the date 1912.
Today we have a small but vibrant congregation running and maintaining the church for the people of Gastard and surrounding areas, and we hope and pray that our church will still be here for future generations.
