Story
In these difficult times of the COVID-19 pandemic St Mark's Church is doing all it can to continue a regular pattern of worship and pastoral care. Daily morning and evening prayer is shared on a WhatsApp group and a 10.30 Sunday morning service is streamed on our Facebook page. The Pastoral Care Team and clergy have maintained contact with all regular and occasional members of the congregation and, sadly, funerals have been conducted at the crematorium when requested. Recently the church has been open for private prayer twice a week and plans are being made to resume services in church when they are allowed.
Of course, even though the church and church hall haven't been used, it still costs money to run them. Insurance, energy bills, the Freewill Offering to York Diocese, clergy expenses, building and grounds maintenance all have to be paid. It costs around £75,000 a year to run St Mark's, or nearly £1,500 a week. Without the collections at services, hall lettings, weddings and so on our income has dropped by a third. A number of folk have been very generous in making additional contributions for which we are extremely grateful but we are still going to be in difficulties if we can't make up the shortfall.
If you feel move to help us with a donation however large or small please do so using this facility. Thank you very much in advance.
