Story

St Marys Upottery parish church has been serving our community for over one thousand years and the existing fabric dates back to the late 12th century. Over the years the Church has developed a reputation not just as an inclusive friendly religious community open to all, but is also active in supporting our parish and those in it, especially when they are in need.

It may surprise you that our church does not receive funding directly from the Church of England or any regular repair funding as a Grade 2* listed building. General repairs are paid for from our generous donations, legacies and fundraising events, from which we also support other charities.

However we find ourselves at a time after attendances have been impacted by the pandemic and more significant essential work to repair and make the church building waterproof are required.

Our goal over the next year is to raise £15,000 towards these improvement works to ensure the building endures for future generations. With this support we will look to gain grants and match funding to try and double this amount.

Your generous donation is greatly appreciated and will help us with a major programme of works including re lime plastering and repainting the nave, repointing the tower, new guttering and access improvements amongst other works.

If you have any questions or can help with this appeal please come along to one of our services, these are held every Sunday at 11 am or contact our PCC Chairman or Secretary
