St Mary's Upottery Church Repair Appeal 2023

Essential repairs appeal 2023

The three communities of Upottery, Rawridge, and Smeatharpe worship together at St Mary’s Church, in Upottery, the oldest parts of which date from the 12th Century. Our beautiful church is now in need of repairs to safeguard its place in the heart of our community for the future.

Story

It may surprise you that our church does not receive funding directly from the Church of England or any regular repair funding as a Grade 2* listed building. General repairs are paid for from our generous donations, legacies and fundraising events, from which we also support other charities.

We received tremendous support from our community last year and this has enabled several essential works to be completed.

To secure the future of the church building we must now also address further pressing issues such as replacing lead flashing and repairing slates over the chancel arch to stop water ingress. This work comes at a cost of £3,200.

Following these essential repairs, we plan to embark on the comprehensive program of replastering and painting which amounts to a cost of around £20,000.

If you have any questions or can help with this appeal please come along to one of our services, these are held every Sunday at 11 am or contact our PCC Chairman or Secretary
