Can you help us get to the bottom of a problem?
Stockport Corporation 91 is a very historic bus – it was built and licensed as the very last traditional rear-loader bus in the United Kingdom, entering service in 1969. It was the very end of a long and distinguished line of open rear platform buses, hopping on or off at traffic lights or watching the conductor standing on the edge.
But, 91 has a problem – its seats. When it was new the seats were trimmed in handsome deep red leather, providing comfort for generations of Stopfordians. But nearly sixty years have taken their toll, and the seats have deteriorated to the point where we have to get a specialist craftsman to re-cover them.
Of course, we could get cheap vinyl – that would save money. But we can’t do that for such a historic bus, nothing less than the same high quality hide that it had when new will do.
We can’t sit on the problem any further! We need your help to raise the money we need to pay for seventy seats to be retrimmed.
Each double seat will cost about £260
– so if you can donate enough to pay for a full 2-seater, we’ll write your name on the bottom of the seat. We will also welcome you and a guest to our VIP relaunch event and provide a full hot buffet lunch and guided tour of the Museum.
- if you donate £130 for a single seat, we’ll write your name on the bottom of the seat and invite you to our launch event with light refreshments.
But any amount will help us reach our goal. So can you reach to the bottom of your wallet? Can you sit by and allow 91’s seats to get worse?
