Story
For over 50,000 years, people have gathered at Creswell Crags.
They came for shelter, for food, for art—and in doing so, they left behind traces of the earliest human stories. These were your ancestors. Today, we have the privilege and the responsibility of preserving this extraordinary place and protecting what they left behind.
Why We Need Your Help
Creswell Crags is more than a beautiful landscape. It’s a fragile, living archive of human history. But with over 100,000 people each using footpaths and bridges through the site and 26 acres of land to care for, it is under constant strain. Paths wear down, structures age, and essential infrastructure needs attention.
As an independent charity, we rely on the generosity of supporters to carry out the vital repair and maintenance work that keeps the Crags safe, accessible and inspiring for everyone.

Your Donations at Work
Every donation helps us tackle urgent and ongoing maintenance challenges to ensure we can keep Creswell Crags open to the public for everyone to enjoy, including:
• Replacing rotting steps to the caves to ensure safe access for visitors
• Replacing the dilapidated bridge into the Meadow so that everyone can keep accessing this amazing place
• Repairing worn pedestrian footpaths across the site
• Upgrading our heating system to keep the visitor centre warm and welcoming
• Improving the environmental controls in the museum so we can ensure the ancient bones and stone tools are well preserved for future generations to experience.
• Switching to energy-efficient LED lighting to reduce our environmental impact while better showcasing prehistoric objects in our museum.
These are not just practical fixes—they are essential to preserving the integrity of the site, the precious objects we care for and ensuring that future generations can continue to explore and learn from this remarkable place.
Thank you for being part of our story.
