The World Cetacean Alliance is the world's largest marine conservation partnership dedicated to protecting whales, dolphins, porpoises and their habitats through global collaboration.

Story

Thousands of dolphins and other cetaceans are killed every year by giant factory ships trawling the ocean. These supertrawlers catch fish using nets three times the length of the Eiffel Tower, but many other animals, including dolphins, also become trapped and needlessly killed as bycatch.

Although dolphins and whales are supposed to be legally protected in the UK and many other countries, not enough is being done to end this deadly problem.

How will your donation help?

We depend on donations to help expand our #DolphinsArentDiscard campaign with Sussex Dolphin Project and increase our chances of success.

Here's why we need your support:

- The legislation to protect dolphins already exists, but isn't being properly enforced.

- We're calling on the UK government to make much-needed changes to hold supertrawlers to account.

- For example, we believe that all fishing vessels over 95m long, operating within the UK’s Exclusive Economic Zone, should be legally required to use onboard CCTV cameras to monitor bycatch.

- We're working with Members of Parliament, small local fishers in Sussex, and other marine organisations to raise awareness of this problem and put in place the solutions to end it.

With your help, we can bring about real change for these amazing animals and save thousands of lives each year.

This common dolphin was found dead on Southwick beach in Sussex during the supertrawler fishing season. The rope tied around its tail is a clear sign of bycatch.

Please donate what you can today to stop this tragic and avoidable loss of life.

We're asking for your help to support our campaign so that we can push for real action and accountability.

Your support really can make a difference. Every donation, large or small, will be used to strengthen our campaign as we speak up for these beautiful, intelligent animals.
