The St Peters PTA has already purchased 4 IQAir air purifiers for the Reception and Year 1 classrooms (2 units per classroom are needed). We need your help to buy 10 more units to tackle air pollution in the rest of the classrooms and create a safer indoor environment for our children.
Several studies have shown that children are particularly vulnerable to the effects of air pollution as they breathe more rapidly than adults and therefore absorb more pollutants. Air pollution also impacts neurodevelopment, cognitive ability and can trigger asthma and childhood cancer. Not only that, children who have been exposed to high levels of air pollution may be at greater risk for chronic diseases such as cardiovascular disease later in life.
After a lot of research, we have found the IQAir purifiers fit our needs best. They have High Efficiency Particulate Air filters which are a safe technology to use in classrooms as they do not emit ozone. The filters remove particulate pollution (PM2.5 and PM10 - one of primary sources of which is car emissions), as well as the broadest range of viruses, gases and chemicals (NO2). They also filter natural allergens like pollen, mould spores, and dust mite allergens.
We will be raising money to pay for the remaining units throughout the year but the sooner we are able to buy them the better, so if you are able to donate to help this cause we would be incredibly grateful.
