Can you help a senior stray mama cat and her three kittens? 🐱💕
The isara team in Thailand have been trying to befriend a stray cat for months. She must have had a hard life and is extremely untrusting, but they were finally able to trap her for sterilisation.
The rural area where she lives is surrounded by aggressive packs of dogs, and it's remarkable that she has survived to the age she has.
When she was taken to the vet for sterilisation, they discovered that she is quite an old girl and is suffering from severe anaemia due to blood parasites, so she couldn't undergo surgery. They also suspected, although it wasn't very obvious, that she may already have been pregnant.
The next morning, she surprised everyone by giving birth to three tiny kittens!
Sadly, she has since tested positive for FIV (Feline Immunodeficiency Virus). The combination of FIV and the blood parasite infection means her anaemia may take longer to resolve before she can safely undergo her sterilisation surgery. If she were returned to the property now, she would almost certainly disappear before finishing her treatment.
Once her treatment is finished, the Isara team in Thailand will care for her and her kittens until they can find their forever homes. Unfortunately, there are currently no facilities to keep cats, and they need to be safely separated from the local dogs, so the team needs to purchase a large cage for the family.
Mama cat is wise and experienced at evading the dogs, but the kittens would not survive them. This is not an ideal solution, but local shelters are already overflowing and stretched beyond capacity.
We are raising funds to help cover:
• Hospital stay with kittens, treatments, and diagnostics (up to 4 weeks, depending on how she responds to treatment): 10,000 THB / $430 AUD
• Mama cat spay surgery once she is well: 1,200 THB / $55 AUD
• Mama cat vaccinations (core vaccines × 2 and rabies × 2): 350 THB / $15 AUD total
• A large cage to keep her and her kittens safe at the property until they find homes: 3,500 THB / $150 AUD
• Food and litter supplies until the kittens are weaned and adopted: 2,500 THB / $110 AUD
• Future desexing for all three kittens: 2,500 THB / $110 AUD Total
• Vaccinations for all three kittens (core vaccines × 3 each and rabies × 2 each): 1,500 THB / $65 AUD total
If anyone in Chiang Mai may be interested in adopting a kitten in the near future, or even fostering the whole family in their home, then they won't need to be caged at the property where mama cat is from. Please get in touch🐱💕
