Schools Charity Challenge began in 2017 as charity cricket match based at Fettes College, in support of FetLor Youth Club. Last year, the event raised over £5,000 for FetLor to help fund the Duke of Edinburgh Award Programme. Eighteen young people achieved their Bronze Award in 2019 thanks to this support.
Sadly, the cricket match was cancelled this year due to Covid-19 and it has been difficult times for FetLor, as the doors of the club had to be closed. Although FetLor's team have continued to support young people through digital youth work, we are now looking forward to ways that young people can safely come back to the building and get active again. FetLor needed ways to creatively fundraise under Covid-19 restrictions, so that we have resources to make our plans possible.
In response, the Schools Charity Challenge team decided to launch #SummerBowlOff to engage the cricketing community and supporters at home in a fun, socially-distanced, virtual fundraising event!
Looking to the future, Schools Charity Challenge, in partnership with FetLor, Cricket Scotland and MCC Foundation Hubs are exploring ways to widen access to cricket and offer, free to access, sporting opportunities to the young people of North Edinburgh. So show us your best bowl and help us make it possible!
