Story
St George’s School was founded to educate and care for orphans and vulnerable children (OVCs) in Gondar who would otherwise have little support. We need to raise £12,00 to provide wheat flour, rice and oil to the families of over 650 OVCs so that they can be fed nutritious meals over the summer holidays.
Appeal - Summer food for families of our orphans and vulnerable children
£17 for one family for the summer
£170 for ten families for the summer
£1,700 to feed one hundred families for the summer
Most of the pupils at St George's School come from families facing real hardship, meaning that for them school is not only a place of learning but a sanctuary where they receive food, care and attention.
When school closes for the summer holiday, that support cannot simply stop.
The Summer Feeding Programme makes sure that the children at St George’s School was founded to serve are not left without basic food whilst school is out.
This year, the need is more urgent than ever before. Across Ethiopia (but particularly in the district of Azezo, one of Gondar's most disadvantaged, where the school is located) food insecurity is severe, and even basic staples are difficult for vulnerable families to afford.
We need to raise £12,000 to provide wheat flour, rice and oil for more than 650 children and their families over the school holiday. Just over £17 can help feed a family over the summer.
This is a modest appeal, but it matters enormously. For the families St George’s School serves, that can mean the difference between a child returning to school healthy and ready to learn, or spending the holiday hungry and coming back to school in September emaciated and weakened.
St George’s was founded to make sure orphans and vulnerable children in Gondar are educated, fed and cared for. We believe that responsibility doesn’t end when the school year ends.
Please give what you can. Every donation, however small, will help make sure the St George’s School children and their families have food this summer.
Thank you for supporting them.
