It's getting to that time again when we are super busy with hedgehog admissions, we are seeing at least 8 new patients each day at the moment, including orphaned hoglets, hedgehogs injured by streamers, dehydrated poorly hedgehogs, and disturbed nests.

If you find a hedgehog out during the day time, please give us a call on 0151 645 5464 and we can ask all relevant questions to ascertain that the hedgehog needs help, and arrange for them to get to us. We would much rather you called instead of posting on pet sites, emailing, or messaging, as calling us is the best way to get help FAST, and time can be of the essence for these little ones! If we aren't local to you, we can often advise another brilliant rescue that is!

While hedgehog admissions creep up, sadly so do our costs. The cost to us for having a hedgehog sedated and examined at the vets is £40 per hedgehog. Please, no vet slating as our vets have spent years learning about hedgehogs so that they can give the best care, and with the sheer number that we send to be seen, no business could provide this for free, and there is a lot of medication used to sedate them, that has to be paid for. We also huge a huge amount of specialist medication that can only be purchased via the vets as it's injectable, a bottle of anti biotic can be up to £90, and during our busiest times this can only last a few days!

While hedgehogs used to be super popular, we have definitely found that support has dropped over the recent year, and have seen other rescues sharing this experience. Sadly, we are busier than ever! Last year we admitted a whopping 1033 hedgehogs.
