“We are thrilled to be able to reunite with the community and walk together again this year,” said Katherine Council, Director, Phoebe Sumter Foundation.
Participants are encouraged to register early for the event. Registration is $25 per person now through October 13 and $35 per person October 14 till the day of the event. Each registrant will receive a Sumter Pink t-shirt. To register go to phoebehealth.com/sumterpink.
The past four years, Sumter Pink has raised more than $68,000 for local cancer patients. This year’s walk will benefit the Phoebe Sumter Foundation’s Oncology Clinic, which will better accommodate the needs of patients.
Breast cancer is the most common cancer among women. For 2023, the American Cancer Society estimates nearly 297,790 new cases of breast cancer will be diagnosed, roughly 55,720 new cases of ductal carcinoma in situ will be diagnosed (DCIS is non-invasive and is the earliest form of breast cancer), and that nearly 43,700 people will lose their battle with the disease.
“While Sumter Pink was started to raise awareness around breast cancer, the walk since has become an inspiring opportunity to unite as a community to honor all cancer survivors, caregivers and those we have lost. It’s about raising awareness for all cancers,” added Council.
