Sunflowers at Christmas

Organised by Starchild

While sunflowers don't typically come to mind when you think of winter, snow and the festive season, Starchild thought it would be nice to warm your hearts this Christmas with the thought of Sunflowers helping children with disabilities!

Starchild was set up by Michaela Foster Marsh in memory of her adopted Ugandan brother Frankie Marsh. Starchild believes that every child deserves to be loved, cared for, fed and educated. In Uganda, sadly many have no one to provide basic needs. Starchild brings aid to the most vulnerable.

Story

This year, very sadly, Starchild lost our our co-founder Rony Bridges to cancer. Rony loved Sunflowers and children with autism. This Christmas we want to warm the hearts of the children Rony loved so much by building them a holistic centre where these children and families can feel safe and supported. A place they can work together in their struggle to bring about a much-needed change in their culture. It needs to save place where they can grow, develop skills and find love, acceptance and hope.

In 2016 Starchild built a first of its kind School for Creative Arts in Vvumba outside Kampala. We soon became aware that children with disabilities and autism where still unable to access our school. Most recently, we have been trying to reach out to children disabilities. However, the stigmas and myths that surround disabilities in Uganda are frankly horrendous with many being locked up, chained up, ridiculed, raped and abused. In many communities they believe them to be cursed by the devil and the mother also. With the best will in world inclusion is not possible for most of these children at our school. It has therefore become apparent that we need to provide a holistic centre where these children and families can feel safe and supported. Where they can work together in their struggle to bring about much needed change in their culture. It needs to be save place where they can grow and develop skills and find love, acceptance and hope

Dear friends, these people need your assistance, not just the build, but other areas such as transportation for the disabled and disabled toilet facilities, even incontinence pads for some of the children.

If you feel you would like to donate to this project we would be most grateful for any donation and your kindness this Christmas!
