Sunny Cycles is a new charity aimed at helping adults and children of all abilities to enjoy cycling and cycling activities. We will offer lessons, bike skills, confidence sessions, group led rides and volunteering opportunities to help people engage with cycling.
We are a new charity set up by the staff and volunteers who were made redundant and cast aside from the cycling centre on Glasgow Green in September 2022. We are choosing to move on positively, and we are expecting to hear the outcome of our funding applications soon. However, in the meantime we need funds to pay staff to get activities up and running. Our team have a vast experience in cycling and helping people, and we know the mental and physical benefits of cycling. And, be assured, we won't give up the fight to access the cycling centre at Glasgow Green.
Sunny Cycles will deliver activities from Glasgow Green and Dalmarnock where we know there is demand for these activities. The area around Glasgow Green provides the ideal, safe location for us to work with people and build on their skills. The wide paths provide ideal environment to work on bike skills and confidence, and the direct access to the extensive network of cycle paths in and around Glasgow offers opportunity for us to take participants on a journey of exploration.
We aim to have bikes and helmets for people to use if they don't have their own. We will enable our volunteers to undertake training to help us maintain and look after those bikes.
All of this would not be possible without our fantastic team of volunteers, supporting us and our participants all the way from maintaining the fleet of bikes for people to use, to riding by their side or giving those words of encouragement as they participants become cyclists.
