Support our ShopMobility Service!

Organised by Possability People

Due to recent budget cuts from Brighton & Hove's City Council, ShopMobility's service faces closure. Without funding this vital support for the disabled community will diminish, and lead to Brighton becoming less accessible and welcoming to visitors!

Story

Who We Are

Possability People is a Brighton-based charity that supports, empowers, and enables disabled people and people with health impairments of all ages from all backgrounds to live the lives they choose!

What We Do

Shopmobility is a low-cost mobility scooter and wheelchair hire service for Brighton and Hove. Championing accessibility for disabled people to live more independently, having three different locations within the city and providing affordable hire at a time where the cost-of-living crisis has impacted disabled people disproportionately.

The Situation

Following recent budget cuts from Brighton and Hove City Council we now no longer receive any funding for the service. Sadly, without additional funding coming in, the ShopMobility service and the fantastic team who support our local disabled community are going to be affected.

What We Hope to Achieve!

We hope to replace enough of the lost funding so that we can continue to support the service and therefore disabled people, as well as continuing to ensure that Brighton is a welcoming and accessible place for disabled visitors!

The Team

As a volunteer-led organisation, we also train, support, and co-ordinate a team of volunteers. Our wonderful and approachable team of volunteers (Bill, Lewis, Mick, Sam, Steve, Tiegan, and Tony) maintain and thoroughly clean the equipment before and after each hire, can demonstrate how each piece of equipment works, are always on hand to answer phone queries, and provide a pick-up and drop-off service for service users. Our mobility scooters and wheelchairs are also regularly serviced by a specialist company.
