Story
I have been a qualified Nurse for nearly six years this year and have worked for the QE for the last thirteen years, previously a Health Care in A & E before my qualification.
This is the second time running the GNR for QE Charitable Funds and I will have the pleasure of running alongside a close friend and QE colleague of mine. We look forward to supporting each other along the way.
I have chosen to run for QE Charitable Funds Older Person’s Mental Health Team. This is an area particularly close to my heart following the recent death of my grandad, who suffered from Alzheimer’s. The team provide specialist assessment, treatment, ongoing advice and support for people aged 65 and over, who are experiencing mental health problems. They do fundamental work to plan care and reviews by other professionals, arranging follow up care such as GP, specialist community mental health services.
Unfortunately, I have lost two close family members within a couple of months of each other this year and I am running especially in memory of them. This will therefore be an emotional challenge for me as well as physical as I was several years younger the last time around!!
Having ran the GNR previously, I found the atmosphere tremendous, people were very supportive of one another, and I am looking forward to experiencing that yet again. I also feel that this will be a challenge for me physically as last year I was restricted in my ability to do several things following a MSK annular tear in one of my spinal discs which was extremely painful.
If you would like to contribute or show your support in anyway, I would really appreciate this - any donation, big or small, will make a difference to this departments work and services here at the QE.
