Story

Support The Future Of The Glasgow Tree of Tranquillity

The Glasgow Tree of Tranquillity was installed in 2015 in the grounds of Provanhall following a successful fundraising campaign and a great deal of community support . Unfortunately, the Tree and the surrounding Provanhall site have been the target of repeated mindless vandalism and this campaign page has been established to specifically fund the safe removal and repair of the Tree and to secure the future of this beautiful memorial to so many babies in Glasgow and beyond.

We have been working with the team from Glasgow City Council (GCC), local Councillors, the Seven Lochs Regeneration Programme and local Police to address the on-going issues and whilst in the past some damage may have been attributed to weather, there is no doubt at all that the damage to this site this time was malicious, calculated vandalism.

There are many people in the area surrounding Provanhall who also have a connection with the Tree or a leaf on the Tree and who take great care and pride in the Tree being within the grounds of Provanhall. We must together remember that the incidents of vandalism are down to a few mindless people and not a reflection on a whole community who have supported us from the outset.

We now have 9 Trees of Tranquility installed across Scotland and 1 in Northern England and we understand the importance of the Tree where some families have no grave to visit and the Tree, as all our Trees, become a place to remember, reflect and honour a baby that has died, whether this was recently or many years ago.

We understand the sadness, hurt and devastation that this has damage has caused to those who have a leaf on this Tree and taking this into consideration we felt that we had been left with no choice but to remove the tree to a place of safety.

Thank you for donating to support this campaign, we know how much the Provanhall site means to those who have a leaf on this tree. We would like to reassure you that we will not only explore all options, but we will enter into a period of consultation and form a working group in early 2021 before any decisions are made on the future of this beautiful Tree and bench.

We are grateful for each and every donation that we receive towards this campaign, for more updates on this project please visit www.simbacharity.org.uk

Thank you for helping to make a difference,

Note : Should we have any funds leftover from this project, we will use the funds to support on-going maintenance of our Trees and contribute towards future Tree of Tranquillity projects.
