Story

Meet Aya – A Story of Resilience from Rafah

Aya is a young Palestinian girl from Rafah, a city in the Southern Gaza Strip.

Since the outbreak of conflict in October 2023, she and her family have been displaced. They have been repeatedly driven from their home, stripped of stability, and left to survive in devastating conditions.

They are just one of thousands of families impacted by this humanitarian crisis but through this campaign, we’re making sure Aya’s story is heard and the future of her and her family, protected.

Forced from Home, Living in Crisis

There was a time when Aya and her family were settled in their family home. They were happy, they were free and they were safe.

The adults had good jobs and the children attended school. Yet now, Aya and her relatives sleep outdoors, without sufficient shelter, security, food or access to basic necessities. In the face of bombardment and constant displacement, their lives have become a daily struggle just to survive.

"It is hard for us to say that we want to leave our country but we can’t bear this anymore. We’re living in inhumane conditions." - Aya Hammad.

Rafah — once their refuge is now in ruins and closed off by border restrictions. This makes it impossible for families like Aya's to seek safety or start anew.

How Your Donation Helps

This campaign aims to raise £5,000 for each member of Aya’s family, creating a dedicated trust fund for them to rebuild their lives once a ceasefire is in place and safe passage is possible.

Your donation will go toward:

• A secure accommodation

• Every day essentials including food and healthcare

• The re-establishment of work for the adult family members

• The re-establishment of education for the children

“This fund isn’t just about survival — it’s about giving Aya’s family a second chance at life.” - Ann Marie Broadhead-Palmisano, Link Universal
