We at St John Ambulance empower communities to step forward in the moments that matter to save lives. Every year, our training teams provide training to thousands of people each year at venues from Hastings to Chichester, and our front line Ambulance teams support local NHS services, hospices, care homes and are always on standby to support communities in a time of need.
Our ambulances are also a familiar sight at public events and our volunteers give many hours of their own time to provide first aid in their communities. In 2018 our incredible volunteers provided medical cover at some 581 public events, ranging from small local events, to large high-profile events such as Brighton Pride, Lewes Bonfire, Eastbourne Air Show, the London to Brighton Bike Ride, Brighton Marathon and of course at every home game of Brighton & Hove Albion where volunteers have saved the lives of no fewer than six patients who suffered cardiac arrests since the opening of the Amex stadium. Without our dedicated volunteers. these events simply could not happen.
In June 2019, we launched a fundraising campaign to raised £95,000 for a new ambulance for Sussex. Having a fit-for-purpose fleet of vehicles is an essential part of the first aid cover that we provide, making us ready and available in situations requiring our life saving skills. This will not only bring vital treatment kit and multiple trained first aid volunteers to those in need, but will also provide a better, more effective, and quicker treatment of casualties at any incident.
We feel like this is a fitting commitment to our volunteers who, no matter what the weather, are out in their communities saving lives! With your help, we are confident we can achieve this.
