Story

Imagine a situation where:

7 out of 10 children are not in school, thats the highest proportion in the world. The majority of those are girls, which is why less than 1 in 10 women can read

Nearly two thirds of teachers have no formal training whatsoever

Due to the conflict and fighting over the last 10 years nearly 1 in 3 schools has been destroyed, damaged or closed

Only a third of schools have access to water, and only a half of schools have toilets

Welcome to South Sudan.

Because education is key to the development of any country, we at Roots Sudan aim to help in any way we can, no matter how small.

We are currently partnering with Immanuel Kindergarten to help them survive as a school and to expand what they can offer the local children in Yei, South Sudan.

Our current campaign is to help build a new perimeter fence and gate. This will keep the children safe, allow the vegetable plots to be protected (some are currently outside the existing fence), and will enable the school to become more self sufficient and create sustainable schooling.
