Sustainable schooling in South Sudan - the gift of education

Campaign by Roots Sudan

Immanuel Kindergarten is a school in Yei, South Sudan. In recent years it has grown by adding a day care centre, additional kindergarten classes and 4 primary classrooms. Now the aim is to add 4 more in order to become a full primary school.

We raise finances to: - build school libraries and classrooms - run teacher training sessions - provide equipment and resources - deliver other support, such as business training and helping to fund a local medical care

Story

Imagine a situation where:

7 out of 10 children are not in school, thats the highest proportion in the world. The majority of those are girls, which is why less than 1 in 10 women can read

Nearly two thirds of teachers have no formal training whatsoever

Due to the conflict and fighting over the last 10 years nearly 1 in 3 schools has been destroyed, damaged or closed

Only a third of schools have access to water, and only a half of schools have toilets

Welcome to South Sudan.

Because education is key to the development of any country, we at Roots Sudan aim to help in any way we can, no matter how small.

We are currently partnering with Immanuel Kindergarten to help them survive as a school and to expand what they can offer the local children in Yei, South Sudan.

Our current campaign is to help build a new block of classrooms to house the growing number of children that are attending the school. We are also continuing to develop other initiatives to enable the school to become more self sufficient and create sustainable schooling.
