3 NHS Safety Trainers from Scunthorpe are taking on an epic watery challenge to raise funds for their local hospital. Between now and Christmas Dawn Everatt, Angie Mckenna and Vicky Page-Chestney from the Safety Training Team at Northern Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Foundation Trust, will be swimming a distance equivalent to that of the English Channel.
Angie told us This is a big deal for me as Im a fairly new swimmer. Well be swimming 40 lengths each per week over the next few weeks and aim to have completed the 21 mile equivalent distance of the English Channel by Christmas
The trio is hoping to raise enough sponsorship to provide specialist steps for patients at Scunthorpe General Hospital. The steps will give greater access to those with mobility issues. Vicky said a simple thing such as a sturdy robust step with a handle can make a big difference to someone who struggles to get on a hospital trolley. Many people, especially the elderly, often find it tricky getting up onto a bed for routine examinations
The team is undertaking their swimming at The Pods in Scunthorpe and you can sponsor them online at www.justgiving.com and follow the links to The Health Tree Foundation
