Whilst awareness is growing about living with autism, there is still a distinct lack of knowledge, empathy and understanding of the community and the many issues that they face on a daily basis. Diagnosis of autism still tends to take too long and when there is a diagnosis, in a lot of areas there is a lack of support services, and people do not know where to turn to for support and advice. When an autistic individual turns 18, there is even less support and there are less services that can cater for their needs. We know that it doesn't have to be this way and that with the right support autistic adults can live full independent lives.
