HELP US RAISE FUNDS TO RESTORE OUR HISTORIC BANDSTAND

We are excited to launch Take A Stand! our fundraising appeal to raise £75,000 towards the cost of restoring our grade II listed bandstand to its original 1874 glory.

Over the years the bandstand has been repaired but time has taken its toll and extensive work is now required. This project will allow us to reinstate some of the features that were originally there and for the first time ever it will have a viewing point.

We aim to use the bandstand as an all-weather outdoor space for school groups and be a platform for music and other events. We also envisage it will be a unique addition to our facilities for weddings and corporate events.

WE NEED YOUR HELP

Restoring historic buildings requires specialist skill and expertise so we need your help to raise £75,000 towards this.

This project is the first step in our masterplan to protect the Gardens by updating historic and horticultural buildings, developing our award-winning education and learning centre, and conserving the unique plant collection.

It's vital that we safeguard this outstanding cultural asset for future generations.

When Neville Chamberlain gave his first public speech as Prime Minister back in 1937 I am sure he would be pleased to hear of our plans to safeguard the many occasions that have taken place in this beautiful bandstand.

Work will begin on the Bandstand in September and should be completed by 2021.

This is the first of many projects that we will be undertaking to ensure the future security of the gardens.

About the charity

Birmingham Botanical Gardens is one of the UK's most historically significant Botanic Gardens. Almost 200 years old, the stunning natural Gardens and iconic Glasshouses occupy 15 acres within one of Birmingham's most treasured cultural, educational and richly scientific heritage sites. The scale of the challenge to safeguard Birmingham's wonderful 'green' historic gem has led to a pioneering partnership with The National Trust and plans to invest in the historic Glasshouses, and to secure the future for the Gardens as a whole. The charity receives no regular public funding but relies on income it can generate, grants it can secure and generous donations from people who want to ensure the Botanical Gardens is preserved and accessible for everyone now and for future generations. Your gift will make a real difference. You can support us by visiting, becoming a member or making a donation.
