Story
Join the Choir of Mary Mags and Friends for the Complete Choral works of Thomas Tallis, performed in a single day on Saturday 25 April 2026, in aid of the Church and Musicians of St Mary Magdalen, Oxford.
Thomas Tallis was one of the giants among English composers of the sixteenth century. He wrote more than 100 sacred motets, including ‘If Ye Love Me’, ‘O Nata Lux’ and the spectacular 40-part anthem ‘Spem in Alium’. In a sequel to its thrilling ‘Byrdathon’ in 2017 and 2023 – and to mark 440 years since Tallis’s death – the Choir of St Mary Magdalen in Oxford will be performing the complete choral works of Thomas Tallis – more than 10 hours of glorious music – in a single day.
Directed by Will Dawes, the Choir of St Mary Magdalen provides superb music at High Masses throughout the year. This event will help to secure the future of the choral tradition at St Mary Mags, supporting the worship and witness of the Church.
Tallis in Wonderland will feature singers from Mary Mags Choir, as well as friends from choirs across the country, and Will Dawes will head a team of choral directors from across Oxford. Don’t miss this unique opportunity for a trip into the Wonderland which is Tallis!
Whether you’re supporting the church, the musicians, the music, or the craziness of the idea, do please give generously! Thank you.
Many thanks to Robert Hollingworth for allowing us to use this title, which was originally used for I Fagiolini's music theatre/surround sound piece from 2009 (https://www.ifagiolini.com/tallis-in-wonderland.html)
