The Tanzania Association of the Disabled (CHAWATA) estimates there are 30,000 people who need wheelchairs in Tanzania and only 2,000 who have one. example, making it near impossible to attend school, participate in the community, or earn an income.

More than three million women and men in Tanzania, or approximately 9 per cent of the population, have a disability.

People with disabilities are among the most vulnerable groups in society. They are often undereducated, untrained, often unemployed or underemployed and poor especially women, youth and those living in rural areas. Disability is more prevalent in the Mainland (13.3%) than in Zanzibar (9.3%).

With your support this will be our first container of over 500 mobility and disability aids Tanzania. If we did not recyle them the majority of them would have ended up in landfill. Doing the right thing is a win-win solution for all .Such is the plight of disabled people in need in the country we are determined to make such they are not continued to be forgotten. What we have done so far in only a drop in the ocean for the support needed. Many of the recipients can only dream of accessing a wheelchair and have lived an entire lifetime in a state of lockdown.

We want to build on the momentum of one of our Trustee / Volunteers meeting the charity partner and families of disabled people. The conditions and support available to them is truly harrowing. Out partner has over 8,000 disabled people in need to your help. During the blessed month of Ramadan in particular we are calling for donations in the form of Zakat, Sadaqa, Sadaqa Jariyah and general donations from people of all faiths and non.

If we exceed our fundraising target - the donations simply go to the next container project. Alternatively it can used to give some financial support for the end recipients to fulfil their lives through education or employment or rest-bite from their daily struggles to survive - food packs.

Please note that Wheels to Heal is small grassroots U.K. registered volunteer led charity making a big impact overseas.
