Story
On the 24th May, we are taking on the Hairy Haggis relay at Scotland's largest running event - the Edinburgh Marathon Festival!
This year, our staff at Scottish Refugee Council have have teamed up with our wonderful corporate partners, Amiqus, to raise vital funds for those seeking safety in Scotland! Each of us will be running a section of the marathon course, coming together to complete the full 26.2 miles!
While this will be a huge physical challenge for our team, the reality faced by those navigating the UK asylum system is far tougher.
Through our work, we are extremely aware of how the asylum system is becoming increasingly unkind, ineffective and inhumane. People fleeing war, violence and persecution are being left in prolonged uncertainty by harsh government policies. Many are separated from family, unable to work, and many now face the very real risk of homelessness.
At Scottish Refugee Council, we work to support people navigating this system in various ways — through our integration services, our national helpline, and our family rights work. Last year alone, we supported 10,700 people from 113 different countries, helping them access mental health support, legal advice, food, clothing and safety. You can read more about our work here:
Every donation, no matter how big or small, helps us continue supporting people seeking safety in Scotland, ensuring they receive a warm welcome and the support they need to start again in safety. Your generosity makes a real-life difference.
Thank you!!
We are extremely grateful for any support that you can give - whether that’s donating, sharing our page, or cheering us on.
Lots of love,
Team Hairy Haggis 2026! Xxx
