Story
Hello!
We’re Team Scottish Refugee Council, and this April we’re taking on a 23-mile trek from Glasgow to Balloch at this year’s Kiltwalk!
We are taking on this challenge because we care very deeply about the work we do and the people we support and we want to raise as much funds and awareness as possible to support those rebuilding their lives here in Scotland.
Many of our team have lived experience and are refugees themselves, and those who are not, work or support refugees and asylum seekers every single day.
Through our collective experience, we know that the asylum system is becoming more unkind, ineffective and inhumane by the day. People who have fled war and persecution are being left in a state of limbo and uncertainty as a result of UK government policies – separated from their families and barred from finding work. Many are currently facing homelessness.
We work to support and advocate for those in the asylum system in a variety of ways, such as through our refugee integration services, our national helpline or our family rights services. Last year alone, we supported 517 people facing homelessness and extreme poverty, helping them to access mental health services, get legal advice and find food and clothing. You can find out more about our work here: www.scottishrefugeecouncil.org.uk
Undertaking a 23-mile walk is a huge challenge for our team – but we know the challenge for refugees to survive and rebuild their lives is even greater.
Your contribution – no matter how big or small - will support those seeking asylum as they rebuild their lives in Scotland, and ensure they get a warm welcome from our team.
Thank you to all of you who donate, or spread the word! We HUGELY appreciate your support.
With love and gratitude,
Team Scottish Refugee Council xxx
