Story
Teapot Trust offers art therapy to children and young people living with chronic illnesses across the UK. These illnesses are often "invisible" (e.g. juvenile arthritis, kidney disease, sickle cell disease), which can cause complex mental health issues as these children can often face difficulties seeking out support in some areas of their lives, all while managing chronic pain, school, friendships, and family life as they grow into adulthood.
Art therapy is being increasingly recognised as an effective tool to improve mental wellbeing. The outcomes of our art therapy are clear and measurable with 93% of children and young people making positive progress toward their goals. We know conclusively that our work prevents self-harm and suicide ideation – supporting children to cope better and improve their wellbeing.
To hear your child say they don’t want to be here anymore - words can’t describe the anguish and fear it caused in me and my husband. She became more and more withdrawn and eventually refused to talk about how she was feeling. Our world collapsed.
Children living with a chronic illness are at a higher risk of self harm or suicide.
Be a part of a charity that aims to support these children by offering an outlet to their complex emotions. We can't make these conditions go away but we can provide the tools they need for a happier childhood
