Tech for Schools

Organised by Equality Action

We are working with local schools in Charnwood to provide devices to children supporting children who are at risk of falling behind in education because they do not have technology to take part in online lessons during lockdown.

Equality Action is a longstanding, local charity, established in 1969, that continues to evolve to meet the needs of the community it serves. We have always endeavoured to act as a focal point and source of expertise on matters of equality and diversity for individuals, groups, communities and organisations, drawing upon the experience and knowledge of our staff, trustees, volunteers and partners. We are part of a well trusted network within the communities and are the point of contact for practical and emotional support. Our clients know that they can discuss their difficulties with us when it comes to personal financial and feel confident in our ability to handle administrative requirements on their behalf. We help build the community up as a whole; through our educational, social and skill-based events and support groups. This holistic approach when supporting our beneficiaries has resulted in us being a reputable, well-known local charity in the sector. We pride ourselves in being a key organisation in the borough that can effectively meet the needs of minority communities in Charnwood.

Story

Equality Action is a community-based charity which has been established in Loughborough for 50 years, working hard to support the most vulnerable in our community.

We launched this campaign after speaking to local schools and seeing how hard they were trying to support their students. The concern of children falling behind due to access to technology was high. We are working hard to support schools in Charnwood that are struggling with digital exclusion. According to Ofcom, around 9 per cent of children in the UK between 1.1 million and 1.8 million do not have access to a laptop, desktop, or tablet at home. These children are primarily from disadvantaged backgrounds and at risk of falling further behind with their education.
