Help keep two Victorian locomotives running

The Terrier Trust is the custodian of two of only ten surviving Terrier locomotives - 'Poplar' built in 1872 and 'Knowle' built in 1880. Your support can help keep these Victorian masterpieces running for decades to come.

The Terrier Trust CIO exists as a Registered Charity to advance education about the engineering achievement and legacy of steam railway engines, in particular (but not exclusively) by the acquisition, preservation and maintenance of locomotives of the Terrier class for public display and operation.

Story

The Terrier Trust is the custodian of two Victorian steam locomotives that can be seen at the Kent & East Sussex Railway. Almost uniquely in preservation, the pair have spent much of their working lives hauling trains on this delightful rural railway which was associated with "Terriers" before its closure and reinvention as a popular heritage line.

'Poplar' was 150 years old in 2022 and 'Knowle' will reach this milestone in 2030. Keeping the plucky pair in action requires the replacement of various components which after so long are worn beyond repair. In particular, 'Knowle' will require a major overhaul before she reaches her 150th anniversary.

We believe these engines are best experienced in steam rather than as a static exhibit. Your support can help keep them operational for the enjoyment of future generations.
