Help Us Make Healthcare Brighter! Brighterway is the charity for Hampshire and Isle of Wight Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust. We fund projects that go beyond NHS care – bringing joy and wellbeing to local people. Every donation helps. (Anonymous donations mean we can’t thank you personally!)

Story

I’m Tertian Adams, originally from South Africa and now proud to call the UK home. Family means everything to me, and although my family still live in South Africa, I’m fortunate to share my life with my wonderful wife, Katie.

I work as a secondary school teacher and thrive on building positive connections with others. I’m a sociable person who enjoys surrounding myself with like-minded, optimistic people. Outside of work, I’m passionate about sport. I play hockey, take part in CrossFit, and can usually be found watching or talking about sport in one form or another. I’m also a huge fan of The Traitors!

Why I Chose to Support Brighterway

I applied to fundraise for Brighterway because I wanted my miles to represent more than just a personal fitness challenge. I wanted my efforts to directly benefit the local people who rely on NHS services during some of the most difficult moments in their lives.

Brighterway funds the vital extras that standard NHS funding cannot provide, from therapeutic spaces and creative activities to specialist wellbeing projects. Knowing that every step I take can help bring comfort, dignity and hope to patients, families and NHS staff across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight gives me the motivation to keep pushing towards the finish line.

Why This Cause Matters to Me

Having faced difficult times myself and experienced the life-changing benefits of talking therapy, I understand how important it is for people to feel supported and heard. Through this challenge, I hope not only to raise vital funds but also to raise awareness of mental health and the support available to those who may be struggling.

By sharing my story, I want to help break down stigma, encourage open conversations and remind people that they are never alone. Together, we can help ensure that everyone has access to the support they need and that brighter, healthier tomorrows remain within reach.
