RNLI volunteer lifeboat crews provide a 24-hour search and rescue service all around the UK and Ireland, while lifeguards keep a careful watch on the UK’s busiest beaches. RNLI lifesaving and drowning prevention depend on supporter fundraising and the generous donations that you and others give.

Story

The Baltic Exchange's relationship with the RNLI goes back to the mid 1800's when they sponsored one of the very first lifeboats.

In 1962, a special relationship with RNLI Salcombe developed and continues to this day.

Over the last 63 years, the Baltic Exchange's generosity has allowed for the purchase of three All Weather Lifeboats (ALB’s). The current boat, The Baltic Exchange III is a 16m Tamar class and has been in service since 2008. She carries a maximum crew of 7, will launch in any conditions and has a maximum range of 250 miles at a speed of 25 Knots.

In 2027 the Salcombe lifeboat station will receive a new Shannon class lifeboat, which will serve the community and its lifeboat crew 24/7 along the local Devon Coastline for years to come. The Shannon class is the newest RNLI ALB. They are 13m in length, carry a maximum crew of 6, and will travel a distance of 250 nautical miles at a maximum speed of 25 kts. They are fitted with the latest electronics aiding navigation and operation and are the first RNLI ALB to be jet powered. This means that the boat is capable of floating in under 50cms of water and can therefore operate much closer inshore than its predecessors which is more aligned to modern day life boating.

The Baltic Exchange is committed to help in the funding of this new lifeboat and all donations made to this JustGiving page will go towards the RNLI Salcombe Lifeboat Appeal.
