The new Cavendish Laboratory lets us reimagine how we achieve scientific progress.
The unique teaching and research environment of the Cavendish Laboratory has been a beacon for some of the greatest minds in science, attracting researchers who have transformed our understanding of the physical world. World-class scientists need world-class facilities. Increasingly, it is only at the very cutting edge of experimental observation and theoretical simulation that the most profound advances can be made.
In honour of an extraordinary gift from the Dolby family towards this vision, the flagship building of the Cavendish Laboratory will be named the Ray Dolby Centre.
Housing state of the art, sensitive experimental environments and offering inspired teaching, it will be a world-class facility for hundreds of academics, researchers and students. Incorporating new disciplines and major initiatives in for example the generation, transmission, storage and use of energy, the Dolby Centre will drive the next chapter in pioneering advances and the development of new fields of knowledge.
