Dromore YFC, The Base- has been working with young people in the Dromore community for over 27 years. This has only been made possible with the support of local people with a heart for young people to feel safe, supported and cared for. We often say The Base is 'by the community, for the community.' We have amazing local Churches and individuals who support the work we do however with increasing costs we are financially struggling and want to ensure the work we do continues for many more years to come.
We currently have 138 young people who are registered for programmes and activities in the centre found on the ground floor of 16 Church Street. We open a lot of afternoons and evenings in the week to provide programmes, activities and support to individuals. We have a very committed volunteer team who make this happen and are so loved by the young people, and always seeking out additional team members passionate about serving God in Dromore. Programmes range from drop-in's where they can socialise with their friends, mentoring which is a one hour session a week with an adult who will provide a supportive, listening ear as well as various personal development programmes. PD programmes include workshops on mental health, friendship conflict, community relations, physical wellbeing, identity, sexual health etc to name but a few. We also offer qualifications for those seeking to explore leadership and run a course to equip, encourage and empower young people to invest back in their local community.
The bottom line is this, we are so privileged to get to work with the young people we do. They each have their own stories, their own hurts, their own triumphs. Each have dreams they arnt sure they'll ever reach or barriers they'll ever overcome and yet we want to stand with them on their journeys and encourage them on. Help them recognise their potential and worth. Know their identity in Christ and be who they are created to be.
Please if you can provide a donation towards this amazing work, we would be so encouraged! We want to continue to be consistent in the lives of young people when so often everything's changing, we are a safe and welcoming space for all and believe there is much to still to be done. We have waiting lists for young people to attend programmes, increased interest in mentoring and seeking out support, opportunities we are having to decline- yet would be so good because we need additional funds so please if you can give, every penny really does count!
