Story
As you may/may not be aware 1st Leigh Scout Group has been running for over 50 years now from its home in Leigh Sinton. Sadly though time has taken its toll on the 1930’s wooden hut we use on a daily basis. Therefore to protect the group for a further 50 years, time has come to design, build and equip a new and sustainable modern Scout Community Hub or use by our Scout Group and other local community groups.
To enable us to do this we will need to raise sufficient funds by means of fund raising, grants, donations etc.
This is where we need your help… every penny we raise is one step closer to our target, if you personally, or know of a business who could help we would be greatly appreciated.
if you would like to know more information about our proposals or would like to get involved in anywhere please do not hesitate to email leighscoutgroup@outlook.com
Why replace our current hut?
Our existing wooden hut was purchased second hand in 1979, it’s now reached the end of its operational life and is simply not fit for purpose any more. It has:
• no central heating
• no insulation/poor thermal properties
• no permanent disabled access or toilets
• no showers for camping
• a roof which leaks and patched up
• a floor where the joists have rotten
• an internal wooden frame which has been subject to vermin damage, water ingress and wood worm.
• no eco-friendly or sustainable qualities
What’s our objective?
To raise sufficient funds to design, build and equip a new and sustainable modern Scout Community Hub for the use by our Scout Group and other local community groups, organisations and individuals. This will be carried out in 2 phases;
Phase 1: Raise 245k to build and open the Building so its fully operational.
Phase 2: Raise a further 80k to install solar panels, batteries, air source heating, ev points etc
What can we offer the local community?
We have the advantage of a separate activity building and large camping field to the rear of the hut, which no other local site has. This is perfect for all kinds of community events, if only we could also offer a suitable HQ and facilities to go with it.
