The BIG FIX Uganda is a One Health initiative dedicated to improving the lives of the people and animals of Northern Uganda. We operate the regions sole veterinary hospital and have improved the lives of tens of thousands of animals and people through education, rabies vaccinations, spay/neuters, and community outreach. Our innovative Comfort Dog Project--the ONLY program of its kind in Africa--pairs war trauma survivors with rescue dogs bringing healing and happiness to both.
We need to raise this money so we can continue our work! In 2022 The BIG FIX Uganda will:
Remain open to the public 7 days a week. All animals are treated and cared for even if the guardian cant pay. We see about 5,000 animals a year.
Run 40 field rabies vaccination clinics where we will vaccinate at least 7,200 animals. Rabies is still a large issue in Uganda; almost every person knows someone who has died from rabies. These clinics are in remote regions where no other vet care is available.
Transport, spay/neuter, deworm and vaccinate at least 650 community dogs and cats.
Provide 60 group trauma-counseling sessions. These sessions are often the only mental health services available in the villages.
Provide emergency animal rescue services 7 days a week with rescue officers working in various communities in the region.
Graduate 12 new Comfort Dog Project Teams from our 20-week training program.
Support the existing 61 Comfort Dog Project teams already in the program by providing them ongoing mental health services, on the job training, and free vet care.
Visit 32 schools where we educate children about animal cruelty, rabies, and other important issues impacting animals.
Broadcast 24 radio programs addressing key animal health and welfare concerns. These program are broadcast to millions of listeners.
Provide ongoing job training and personal development to our 18 team members in Uganda. We will also bring on a second social worker, a vet assistant, an adoption coordinator, a driver who will also serve as our community mobilizer, and an administrative assistant. These additional staff are needed so we can expand our good work and impact in Northern Uganda.
EVERY donation counts and 100% of donations go directly to fund our programs in Uganda! A donation of $1.50 means that we will be able to vaccinate a dog or cat against rabies!
