Story

Welcome to the Big Pea Challenge!

This Christian Aid Week, we are celebrating how our partners in Malawi are helping farmers transform their livelihoods using the humble but mighty pigeon pea: a drought-resistant, soil-revitalising, high-protein, low-cost, delicious crop. Inspired by the transformational pigeon pea, The Big Pea Challenge invites you to hold your own pea-themed fundraiser this May.

Whether youre a gardener, a cook, or just up for a bit of fun, on this site, youll find resources to help you get out into your community and bring other good-hearted people into the Christian Aid movement.

The money you raise during Christian Aid Week funds projects all over the world, from allowing us to be first on the scene in a disaster or emergency, to long term projects like our work in Malawi helping farmers find practical routes out of poverty.

Christian Aid is here for the worlds most vulnerable people for the long haul, and so are our supporters. Watch the film below to learn how your money helps us change the lives of people like Esther.

Any amount you raise is pea-rrific and will be carefully used!

£50 could provide pigeon pea seeds and farming tools for a family. Youll be helping them grow enough crops to make a healthy profit.

£70 could buy a bicycle so that an experienced farmer can reach over 100 farmers in remote areas and teach them essential business skills.

£100 could help provide a business training session, helping farmers to secure higher, fairer prices for their crops.

£1,000 could play for a fish food processor, so cooperative members can turn their pigeon peas into fish food and raise fish to sell at a profit.

This Christian Aid Week, you can help dreams come true. With your gifts, prayers and actions, your gift could help farmers like Esther plant better seeds, secure a fairer price for their crops, and build happier futures for their children and grandchildren.
