“Each life lost to suicide sends ripples through families, friends, and communities. Research shows that one suicide affects an average of 135 people.” - Sam Southern, the manager of Solace @ Empowerment Charity.
“Through the Big Puddle Jump, we aim to create ripples of hope, solidarity, and change. Fundraising is essential to make sure these services are available to everyone who needs them.”
Sam has been a dedicated advocate for suicide prevention and bereavement since the loss of her husband, Glen, to suicide five years ago. She has worked tirelessly since then to support people experiencing that loss and struggling with their mental health, a role that lead to her carrying the Baton of Hope in 2023.
Sam and her family were hugely moved by the event, and in wanting to share that experience with Blackpool, won the bid to host the Baton of Hope Opening Day in 2025.
Every pound raised from The Big Puddle Jump will go to those in our community needing bereavement/prevention support, and towards bringing The Baton of Hope to Blackpool in 2025 - creating a lasting legacy for our town.
