#AndStillWeRide - The Bike Project COVID-19 Emergency Appeal

Bikes have become crucial during the Covid-19 outbreak and we need your help to continue our work. Instead of asking refugees to use public transport to come pick up their bike, we will now be taking bikes to them. Please help us by donating.

Story

As you may have heard, Coronavirus is shutting down business, charities and community projects left, right and centre. Not so at The Bike Project!

We believe that refugees and asylum seekers need bikes now more than ever.

But with official guidance in place to avoid gatherings, we have taken the decision to close our doors for the time being.

Instead of asking refugees to risk their health on public transport while travelling to our workshop, we're taking bikes out to them.

This costs money, of course, and we're asking all our supporters for a little push to get our wheels turning.

Wondering how you can help?

A one-off £10 donation is enough to hire a van and driver to deliver a desperately-needed bike to a refugee in London or Birmingham.

Behind closed doors, our mechanics are working ever harder to refurbish our stockpile of clapped-out bikes so that we can carry on getting refugees cycling.

A one-off £100 donation pays for everything we need to completely restore a bike and get it out to a refugee today.

At this very uncertain time, bikes can help all of us get out and feel like we still have some modicum of freedom.

This is true no more so than for refugees who are among the most hurt by the closure of charity and community services.

I was hoping to study, improve my personal skills and be a part of British society. But the question always is HOW? Until I came to The Bike Project to pick up my bike... That was the beautiful moment that changed my life here in the UK! - Anonymous Bike Beneficiary

Our mission is simple: to get refugees cycling! We take second-hand bikes, fix them up, and donate them to refugees and asylum seekers. A bike helps refugees and asylum-seekers access food banks, legal advice, healthcare, education and much more.
