Story
Everyone deserves the right to good health. At The Bridge, we're working towards a society where equity is the norm, where all women’s voices are heard, and where their health and wellbeing rights are respected and met.
“Most of all I gained confidence through The Hub and that’s why I’m able to go back to college and embark on a new adventure because of places like ‘The Bridge’. I would have never dreamt of going back to college at the beginning of the year but the confidence I’ve gained, the way I’ve felt empowered across the workshops I’ve attended have all led to this.”
Women, particularly those living in the most deprived areas, spend a significantly greater portion of their lives in ill health compared to men. In Southwark, all types of common mental health disorders are more prevalent in women than among men, and only 28.8% of women and girls participate in sport for at least 30 minutes per week. Women have been and continue to experience a health crisis - yet a public survey by the Department of Health and Social Care found that 84% of women said they had not been listened to by health care professionals in their experiences of health, for example feelings of pain.
We say enough is enough. The Bridge works with women, like-minded health professionals and organisations to run transformative women-led projects to connect communities, improve women’s health and wellbeing and amplify women's voices about health and gender inequalities.
We currently run six community projects for women in Southwark to find community, share their experiences and improve their physical and mental wellbeing. Our space is for everyone, but many members of our community have experience of living with long term physical and or mental health conditions, experience high levels of social isolation, or are struggling financially.
We're raising £1000 to support the running costs of these projects through donations and tickets to our Raise A Glass wine tasting fundraising event - and we need your help!
£5 could cover the cost of free tea and coffee for someone attending our HUB project, to connect with others over a cuppa
£22 could cover the cost of an hours time for a community researcher for our BOOK OF KNOWLEDGE project, to help amplify women’s voices and experiences
£50 could cover the cost of a facilitated workshop or presentation at the LIFE project, to help women better understand the changes they are going through
£80 could over the cost of a one-to-one counselling session for a RISE project participant, to give women more specific and personal support for their mental health experiences
The really exciting part? All ticket sales and donations up to £1000 are being match funded. That's double the donation and double the impact - at no extra cost to you!
Thank you for your generosity and for supporting The Bridge!
