Story
Cherry Hinton Hub is being developed in response to a need for community facilities within the ward. The lack of public meeting space has been identified in two separate City Council reports and the lack of a cafe in particular is well known to residents. In a 2016 survey, 98% of residents agreed that Cherry Hinton would benefit from more resources and 87% said they wanted a community cafe.
In 2013, a successful campaign by the Residents Association resulted in the creation of a new community room within the old library building. The space proved popular and was widely used but its size and facilities were limited. The campaign continued and plans were drawn up to extend and redevelop the ground floor of the library - chosen for its central location. In addition to improved library services, the planned facility will provide the community with meeting rooms, a cafe and a courtyard garden area.
The new hub will be managed and run by local residents. We are confident that it will provide a focal point for the whole of the local community and will be a hugely beneficial resource. Much of the money for the development has been secured thanks to generous capital allocations from our local councils. However, the community has been tasked with raising a further £50,000 which will be used for furnishing and equipping the kitchen and cafe.
We can't wait to give this story a happy ending. Please will you help us?
