Story
The Gita Project started as a result of a personal event which became a powerful inspiration for this project. The event highlighted that in times of need there would be a great benefit to people if there was availability of Yoga and Meditation resources within institutions. So starting small and growing organically, we have placed 200,000 books into 11,500 institutions in 230 towns - all within 7 years. We have reached out to different types of institutions including Prisons, Hospitals, Care Homes, Hospices, Crematoriums, Bail Hostels, Police Stations, Judiciary, Schools and many more.
Within these institutions, there are many occasions for stressful situations, personal difficulties and anxieties for the residents, service users and also staff. Our goal is to help these people by providing life tools for mental wellbeing, emotional wellbeing and spiritual wellbeing based upon the ancient wisdom texts of India. We have connected to institutions across the whole of the UK and we believe there is great potential for replicating this model to other countries within Europe.
This year we are focusing on building upon our work by completing the coverage for hospitals and prisons nationwide and care homes within South East England. This will be in addition to requests we receive and opportunities that crop up during the year.
We have already started to reach out to schools and give them Bhagavad Gita’s for use within their RE classes. Many have happily agreed and hopefully many more will accept. Resources in schools are always short and this will give the children a wonderful opportunity to look at the actual book and learn some of the core messages from there.
We are planning on expanding on our RISE program and well as other more practical techniques for improving wellbeing.
Your help is essential for us to continue this service!
