The Glebe Project

Campaign by The Glebe Project

The Parish of Traprain has some exciting plans afoot. We’ve been granted planning permission for The Glebe at Prestonkirk. The aim of this project is to use The Glebe to create an outdoor learning area, social space and community garden.

The Glebe Project is a Community Garden being established on the Glebe field in East Linton by The Parish of Traprain. Our goal is to create a space that will be accessible to the entire community offering a mix of outdoor learning and community events with areas for quiet contemplation.

Story

The Parish of Traprain has some exciting plans afoot. We’ve been granted planning permission for The Glebe at Prestonkirk

The aim of this project is to use The Glebe to create an outdoor learning area, social space and community garden, which is intergenerational, accessible, inclusive and biodiverse. The project will span all generations of the East Linton community. Youth organisations such as Beavers and Guides are keen to use and be involved in creating the space. We’ve consulted extensively with the school, who would benefit hugely from a dedicated outdoor learning space within walkable distance, and we are planning for community groups to be involved in maintaining the space.

The future of this space is exciting. By sharing this church space with the wider community we hope to foster and maintain strong community links and relationships. Everyone in East Linton will have a biodiverse environment to spend time in, benefiting from nature connection. From a church perspective we would have a new place to gather for worship, church groups and church activities. The East Linton community, including the school and other clubs and societies, will have a community garden and outdoor learning space to visit, nurture and maintain. The area itself will be more biodiverse which will have a long-term positive impact on the community. The costs for the overall project have been quoted at around £40K. Please can you help us? Kirk Session have agreed that church are happy to provide some financial support to the project and we will also be applying to various funds, but any small donations would be very gratefully received and will help us reach our final goal
