Just like many schools, COVID-19 has disastrously impacted our budgets. We have been forced to incur COVID-related costs of around £200,000 since March 2020, due to additional cleaning, supply costs, lost of income from rentals, hardware for staff, and staff replacement costs. These costs have been unavoidable.

Alongside this, the school has been hit with multiple, unexpected, emergency costs. As outlined in the headteacher's video, the school requires new boilers, a new IT-server, and urgent chapel repairs. These alone will total around £45,000.

Additionally, our sports facilities urgently need repair or replacement. We need to re-lay the Sports Hall floor, at a cost of over £200,000, as well as renovating our deteriorated Plough Lane pavilion - costing around £25,000. Our Plough Lane pitches are further suffering from a Chafer Grub infestation, deeply affecting the playing surfaces. This will require a further £10,000 to eradicate.

These emergency costs total well over £250,000, and unfortunately the school is unable to facilitate these unprecedented costs alone. With the government cutting funding nationally over a sustained period, we have been provided with little assistance. We are asking our parents/carers, alumni, and the local community to support The John Fisher School at this time, safeguarding our ability to continue as an educational establishment for many years to come.

We do not ask for your assistance lightly. We have stopped all spending in areas such supply agency teachers, instead we are using our senior and middle leaders. We have also stopped trips and visits, paused departmental spending on resources, and cancelled most of our teaching resource subscriptions. We have also had to make some very tough decisions on our curriculum offer and staffing.

We face long-term challenges that will directly influence the life chances of young children, reducing opportunities in sport, the arts, and music. We cannot let this happen.
