Story
World Horse Welfare Baron and his friend Duke were artist Andy Scott’s inspiration for the iconic 100-foot-high sculptures, The Kelpies. Gentle giant Baron came into the care of our charity in 2000 as part of a large welfare case where 30 neglected horses were rescued on welfare grounds. Having been nurtured back to health by our team, handsome Clydesdale Baron was rehomed to Glasgow City Council as part of our charity’s rehoming scheme, which gives horses like him a second chance at life. At Glasgow City Council he formed a heartwarming bond with Duke as they worked in partnership pulling a traditional dray. Baron and Duke were the perfect pair to pose for this tremendous work of art, as they are a magnificent international symbol of the gallantry of the traditional working horse. We are enormously proud of this wonderful association with the world’s largest and most impressive equine sculpture.
