The Lady Walker Fund for Dementia

A decade ago Lady Walker was diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer's. On the 29th January she died with her family by her side. This is a horrible disease which is familiar to many individuals and their families. We are determined to make a change.

Story

Rhianydd (Ranny) was Iceland Foods founder Sir Malcolm Walker's childhood sweetheart and his wife and chief supporter for more than 50 years. She was an inspirational figure who came up with the name of the business in 1970, was one of its very first employees, and later motivated Iceland's successful fundraising efforts for dementia research.

Iceland Foods Charitable Foundation now has a long history of supporting dementia research and the organisations caring for those with dementia. It is now the biggest cause of death in the UK with 850,000 people currently suffering from this illness, costing the economy more than £25 billion a year, yet dementia research gets 13 times less funding than cancer.

Our Foundation has invested over £17 million in this area to date, but our task is far from complete. We have pledged to continue our support and back those working so hard to find a solution to this illness for the generations to come. We can think of no more fitting way to remember Lady Walker, the inspiration behind our work in this area. We are grateful for any support you would like to give in her memory.
