The Mabel Churn Centre

Organised by Age UK Enfield

We're raising funds for the move to and refurbishment of our dementia day care centre. The new location has been closed for nearly 2 years and we need to update the facilities to meet modern standards of dementia care as well as expand our services.

Our mission is to ensure older people in Enfield feel valued, are active and connected and able to Iive the life they choose. We provide a wide range of services and activities and, as an independent charity, we rely on the generous support of donors to enable us to help and support this community.

Story

We’re leaving the Parker Centre, where our dementia care service has been based for many years. We’re thrilled to be embarking on a new adventure and moving to a new location and building which will be called The Mabel Churn Centre.

The “new” premises, originally called the Rose Taylor Centre, was designed as a daycare centre. It’s got a fantastic floor plan that’s perfect for us to transform into a modern dementia care centre. But here’s the catch: the building’s been closed for almost two years now. So, we’ve got a lot of work to do to bring it up to scratch to meet all the latest standards and legal requirements.

We're delighted to say that the first phase of work has started through a generous donation from the Mabs Mardulyn Charitable Foundation so when we move in, in October 2025, the essential elements will have been completed.

But there is much more to be done and this is why we're asking for donations.

This new building is much bigger than our old one, and it’ll make our work environment so much better! It’ll also give us the chance to take on more clients and reach out to more older people in the Borough with all the fun activities, advice, and information we offer.

It is a spacious building with a lot of natural light and even includes a courtyard and dedicated outdoor space. Its design reflects the needs of those who are restricted in movement or are wheelchair bound - for example there is a slope to the main entrance. Accessibility is a key aspect of the refurbishment plans and we will look to make the building dementia friendly through the use of colour too.

Monies raised will be used in all aspects of the building's infrastructure and design - from lighting to security, from chairs and tables to crockery and kitchen equipment, from activity packs and exercise equipment to plants and gardening tools, from shelving and cabinets to IT and utility work, from chairs and tables to pictures and paint, the list is endless - and your support will help make it all possible.

Age UK Enfield, although part of the Age UK national network, is an independent charity and has to raise its own funds to survive and deliver the many services benefiting the older community of the Borough.

Anything you can spare, and which will be devoted for use to improve the lives of older people in Enfield, will be much appreciated - thank you.
